For many trans fans who connected with Harry Potter, Rowling's recent tweets are saddening. Discovering queer community felt 'a lot like Harry walking into Diagon Alley for the first time: A riot of color and noise and wonder. Finally a place I belonged.'
She followed up:"If sex isn't real, there's no same-sex attraction. If sex isn't real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn't hate to speak the truth."
And here I am, a person who once revered Rowling, a person who is also in the community that she invalidated with a few careless tweets. I'm nonbinary, meaning that my gender identity doesn't categorize neatly as man or woman. Trans men also don't fit into the woman category.
