Opinion: San Diego developer impact fees must pay for the impacts of growth [Opinion]

” : The mayor’s plan to combine new impact fees in one pot would be a huge mistake. Why would communities accept large-scale growth if they don’t get the improvements, libraries and fire stations needed as a result of the growth?

In fact, state and federal law require a connection, a “nexus” between the place where fees are collected and the place where spent. Mayoral staffers are rushing the proposal. Are they afraid people will read it? There’s nothing wrong with the current development impact fee system except that fees need to be updated, “to make growth pay for itself.” City leaders promised this long ago.
