Gov. Kathy Hochul is facing scrutiny and pushback from the LGBTQ community just days before her 2024 budget is to be implemented. The organizers of Buffalo's Pride parade on June 4 have declined her request to attend. DougWilliamsTV explains why.
The decision is related to the governor's state budget proposal and a carve-out in health care spending left over from the Cuomo administration that the LGBTQ community believes will make access to quality care more difficult.
"Anybody that predominantly serves the safety net population, they are 100% ripping the rug out from underneath us," said Mike Lee, COO of Evergreen Health. "If you're going to take critical resources from the LGBTQ population, then I don't think that you should be able to come take pictures with us in June to celebrate Pride, when you're behind the scenes advancing a policy that rips all of the services away from that population," Lee said.
