A couple of hundred people were rescued off of a giant chunk of ice in Minnesota thanks to rescuers who kept their cool and came to their aid.
The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the people in need of rescue at 11:34 a.m. on Monday when it received a 911 call from fishers at the Upper Red Lake who were stuck on a chunk of ice that had broken free from the main shore. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities were able to find an area where they could deploy a temporary bridge to evacuate the stranded fishermen, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.
"At 2:37 p.m. it was determined that everyone requiring evacuation from the ice had been reached and emergency responders cleared the scene," a statement from the sheriff's office read."In total, an estimated 200 individuals were evacuated from the ice."Aside from the temporary bridge, authorities also used airboats, water rescue boats, ATVs, and drones to help bring the fishermen back to safety.
