The man plead guilty to third degree murder on June 21 for the beating death of the son of his then-girlfriend.

in February of 2021 when the child became unresponsive. Meyers had left Mason with the boy for 12 minutes, TribLive reported, while going to a friend’s home around 5:45 p.m.

Mason told police that Lombardi was “fussy” after waking up from a nap. He called Meyers a short time later to tell her that the boy’s breathing was shallow and that he was unable to wake him, and soon after called again “hysterical” and Meyers called 911. Upon their arrival, paramedics found that Lombardi had bruising on his forehead, right eyelid, jawline and left ear, and was “unresponsive, in cardiac arrest with no pulse.” Meyers told the court that the beating he suffered caused five separate skull fractures. He was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he died the next day.

According to TribLive, Meyers told the court that she and her ex-husband had to sign a do-not-resuscitate order for their son, and called Mason “evil” and that both she and her son had trusted him. She described her son as a boy “who brought love and light to any room he entered” and that “his hugs were beyond magical.”
