Applications were due April 1; police Chief Carl Scalzo said they received 61 applicants for four open positions. The online application closes at noon on Friday, April 22. The testing is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, at Whitehall High School. More information can be found at In the first few years of the consortium, they would see more than 100 applicants, Marks said. Then it dropped to 95 applicants, Mark said, and there were 57 at the most recent testing last year.Dorney, who served as Allentown’s police chief before joining the township, said the city would see 1,000 candidates at testing in the 1990s. It started to slowly drop, hitting between 400 to 600 people.

“When I came through the department, a lot more applicants were interested in becoming police officers. I think that has taken a dive, in some respects,” Roca said.
