Photo provided by the U.S. Senate.U.S. Senator John Fetterman was released from the hospital and has returned to his home outside Pittsburgh, according to a statement released by the U.S. Senate on Friday.
Fetterman was receiving treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center since mid-February for major depression, according to the statement. His medical team, led by Neuropsychiatry Chief Dr. David Williamson, said Fetterman’s depression is now in remission. While the Senate is in recess for the next two weeks, Fetterman will spend time with his family in Braddock and return to D.C. when the Senate session resumes on April 17.
“I am so happy to be home. I’m excited to be the father and husband I want to be, and the senator Pennsylvania deserves. Pennsylvanians have always had my back, and I will always have theirs,” Fetterman said in a statement. “I am extremely grateful to the incredible team at Walter Reed. The care they provided changed my life. I will have more to say about this soon, but for now I want everyone to know that depression is treatable, and treatment works.
Fetterman, 53, was recovering from the aftereffects of the stroke he suffered last May during his Senate campaign when he went to Walter Reed on the advice of the Capitol physician.
