Fernando Tatis Jr. works out, back with Padres teammates for the first time since spring training broke

The Padres — who have decided not to make Tatis available to reporters until Thursday — had briefly considered getting Tatis into a game this week at low Single-A Lake Elsinore but instead will continue to work him out at Petco Park ahead of him starting in right field and batting leadoff on Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
“Now I’m not going to play him 25 games in a row, but he’ll probably be in the same boat as everybody else’,” Melvin said. “ … There could be some days where he’s the DH, but we have a couple of those that we use as well. He’ll be full-go.”They began the week a game under .500, had dropped three of four to the Brewers and had generally been waiting for their offense to consistently show up.On Thursday, they’ll share the same field for the first time in the regular season.
