Manager not ready to commit to Josh Hader as closer yet; Drew Pomeranz sees specialist regarding discomfort
“We’ve got two guys we feel pretty good about right now,” manager Bob Melvin said Friday afternoon, referring to Nick Martinez and Hader. “As far as the matchups go, we’ll take a look at that. Certainly, after a little period here where Josh wasn’t closing, he. We’ll see where we go from here, but don’t be surprised if you do see him in the ninth again , and don’t be surprised if maybe he’s used an inning earlier than that. We’ll see how the game plays out.
Pomeranz, who has a 1.62 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings the past two seasons, has never seemed to feel entirely comfortable as he works back from his August 2021 surgery. He began a rehab assignment early last month but was shut down Aug. 19. So he is back with the Padres, one of their two September call-ups , as active rosters expanded to 28 players for the season’s final month.

Wisconsin AG hopeful won't commit to Trump in 2024Wisconsin’s Republican attorney general candidate won’t commit to voting for Donald Trump in 2024 if he runs for president again, putting him at odds with other top Republicans on the ballot in the battleground state this November. Eric Toney, a district attorney looking to unseat Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul, has a more complicated relationship with Trump than other Republicans running statewide in Wisconsin. Toney voted for Trump in 2020, even though he privately referred to him as “dumb dumb Donald,” and unlike some Republicans, Toney has said President Joe Biden's election was legitimate and there's no way to overturn the results.
