The Padres have won their last three games against the Mets; Blake Snell will face Chris Bassitt
Eric Hosmer had not logged an extra-base hit since June 26 when he doubled in the second inning Friday night. Two innings later, he homered for the first time since June 23, a two-run shot that served as the decisive blow in a 4-1 win over the Mets.
It was just the second time that Hosmer logged two extra-base hits in a game this season and it’s just what the power-starved Padres needed, especially from a first baseman sitting on just seven homers and a .730 OPS. July is historically Hosmer’s best month and Hosmer has typically ticked ever so slightly upward after the All-Star break, hitting .276/.333/.419 in the “first half” and .278/.342/.439 after the All-Star Game.
The Padres could use all the positive momentum that Hosmer can muster as they remain four games behind the Braves in the race for the No. 4 seed and a home playoff game .AdvertisementThe rest of the lineup is identical to Friday’s, with the exception of Jorge Alfaro catching and batting seventh instead of Austin Nola. Nola caught Yu Darvish on Friday and should catch Joe Musgrove on Sunday.
