The prime minister of Pakistan accused a United States diplomat on Sunday of playing a role in a conspiracy to overthrow his government.

Imran Khan claimed Donald Lu, assistant secretary of state for south and central Asian affairs, had told him through Pakistan's ambassador to the U.S., Asad Majeed, that there would be implications if Khan survived the no-confidence vote, according to the Hindustan Times.Khan added that he had reports that objectors to his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party had frequented the U.S. Embassy.

A State Department spokesperson told the Washington Examiner there is no truth to Khan's claims and that it is closely following developments in Pakistan.A no-confidence vote was blocked in Parliament on Sunday, with Khan calling on Pakistan to prepare for an early election. He also requested Pakistani President Arif Alvi to dissolve Parliament, CNN reported.
