Video footage showed holidaymakers being evacuated from Terminal 1 this afternoon
Video footage captured the moment passengers were evacuated from a terminal in Manchester Airport earlier today.
Holidaymakers at Terminal 1 check-in were evacuated from the building just before 1pm. Footage showed an alarm ringing through the building as passengers were told the area must be 'evacuated immediately'. A notice over the speaker said: 'Attention please, an incident has arisen that necessitates the immediate evacuation of this area'. It added: 'Please leave by the nearest available exit and follow any further instruction that may be given by staff'.A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said the evacuation was carried out as a precaution amid a false fire alarm. Fire crews attended the scene to make sure the area was safe and no fire was found.
The evacuation was 'brief', the spokesperson added. Passengers have since been able to return into the terminal, with assistance being given to anyone who was delayed by the evacuation.
