Glasgow Passport Office, which usually has up to 400 specially-trained passport examiners, was down to nine workers on Tuesday and five on today due to the Civil Service strike over pay and conditions, theipaper understands
A passport office worker in Durham said there have only been three staff members working on the public counter during the strike this week, meaning there are “drastically reduced” appointments for one-day premium and one-week fast-track passports.
She added that the work started “ramping up” just before the strike began as people needed urgent passports for the Easter holidays andpreviously revealed that there has been limited availability for one-day premium and one-week fast-track appointments each day since the strike began on Monday. The Government has offered civil servants a 2-3 per cent pay rise, but the union has been calling for a rise of 10 per cent, in line with inflation.
