Paul Manafort’s 47-month sentence is raising a firestorm on social media about justice and fairness
Paul Manafort, the former campaign chairman for President Donald Trump, got his sentence Thursday in connection with tax and bank fraud: 47 months.
But some politicians and others said after Manafort’s first sentencing that it’s an example of injustice in the U.S. legal system. “In our country we prey on the most vulnerable citizens in our nation, poor folks, mentally ill folks, addicted folks and overwhelmingly black and brown folks.” I now rep a 35 y/o charged w arson. Severely intoxicated. Severe cognitive delays. Fortunately no one injured. Minimal damage. Rikers for last year pretrial. Current offer is 10 years longer than Manafort: 14 yrs prison.
While Paul Manafort just received a less than 4 year prison sentence for massive financial fraud, I have a client serving 3 and a half to 7 years in prison for stealing laundry detergent from a drug store. pic.twitter.com/I38uq9WkXKKellyanne Conway, the White House counselor, suggested Manafort got a larger sentence than people convicted of similar crimes.
