From January 29, 2024, drivers parking on pavements in Glasgow will face fines. The new rules, authorized by the Scottish Government, aim to enhance road safety for pedestrians, particularly those with disabilities or pushing prams. Edinburgh implemented similar measures in January 2023. Initially, warning notices will be issued, and all parking fines in Glasgow are set at £100, reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.
Penalty charge notices can be issued against vehicles parked on the pavement on most of the city’s streets under new powers.
IT issues have delayed the roll-out of the ban, which was allowed by the Scottish Government from December 2023. Edinburgh introduced the measures in January last year. Remaining streets are now subject to a further phase of assessment to check whether other measures to control parking are appropriate before an exemption can be considered.
