A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Alaska Railroad train near Bird Point along the Seward Highway today, according to Anchorage police.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Alaska Railroad train near Bird Point along the Seward Highway on Wednesday, Anchorage police say.

Officers responded to Mile 96 of the highway at around 12:45 p.m. in reference to a train versus pedestrian collision, according to police spokeswoman Cherie Zajdzinski-Shirey. Police as well as medics responded, Zajdzinski-Shirey said. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. A representative of the Alaska Railroad, which is investigating the incident, could not immediately be reached.
