The Nittany Lions, ranked No. 11 by the CFP committee last week, are underdogs on Saturday against the No. 2 Wolverines. But a lot could change with a home upset.
Will bowl executives avoid pitting future conference foes against each other? Oregon is joining the Big Ten but isn’t on Penn State’s schedule until 2025. This would be only the fifth meeting between Oregon and Penn State, the first since the 1995 Rose Bowl. The Ducks have the seventh-best odds to reach the CFP, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index.
Ole Miss wouldn’t be a bad matchup, either. The Rebels boast one of the best passing offenses in the country, providing Penn State’s disruptive secondary with a test. Lane Kiffin, who never shies away from sarcasm, would be fun to cover during bowl week. And the tailgate scene with Ole Miss and Penn State fans would be off the charts electric.
