A PennLive investigation that found Dauphin County officials spent much of the $3.4 million they pocketed from jail phone calls on staff perks and private contractors has spurred two new bills in the Legislature.

Cappelletti said a legal intern brought the issue to her attention after reading the PennLive investigation. The next step for Rabb’s bill is building public support and urging the majority chair of the committee to hold a hearing. Dauphin County officials spent nearly $300,000 from phone commissions on gun range memberships for jail staff and other county employees who did not work at the jail.
