People over the age of 70 could be missing hundreds every month from benefits and discounts they are fully entitled to, with one benefit worth over £700 a month alone
Many retirees relying on state pension to get by are scrapping their pennies together after the Winter Fuel Payment restrictions were put through by a ministerial vote earlier this week, which will see millions missing out on the £300 seasonal payment for the first time this year. However, countless pensioners could also be unknowingly missing out on hundreds in unclaimed benefits and other discounts due to their age.
People can claim this benefit by applying online or by contacting TV Licencing on 0300 790 6117. Military pension benefits are also most commonly claimed by pensioners over the age of 70, according to Lottie, despite not being specifically geared towards this age group. The War Pension scheme is available to people who have served in the UK Armed Forces themselves and suffered an injury or illness caused by service before April 6, 2005. It’s awarded in two main levels; a gratuity lump sum for those who are deemed to have a disablement less than 20% and an ongoing weekly or monthly pension payment for those with more than 20%.
