Phil Elverum on why he needed to mine his own past on the first Microphones album in 17 years

“It was absurd,” he says. “The whole like cash-grab reuniting thing isn’t for me — and maybe I’m not desperate enough yet. Maybe I’ll get there eventually. But at the moment, I don’t know.
