For the angry opponents — and there appears to be many — it provided another example of what they see as city hall incompetence.
As the city’s chief garbage officer Angela Gardiner told city council on Wednesday, Green Prairie bears any excess costs in this instance, as stipulated by its 2020 contract with the city. Skepticism will likely run high until the organic waste finds a permanent home. Yet it’s vital that people remember why thisbecause Saskatoon continues to have a dismal record of diverting useful material from the landfill, among the worst in Canada.
The cost of a new landfill, however, presents only one hurdle. Finding a location for a new landfill could be incredibly challenging — which should resonate with folks after Corman Park council rejected the original plan for the compost facility.
