The former Ibrox striker runs through the squad and has his say on who should stay and who should go.
If Philippe Clement didn’t know the size of the job he faced at Rangers when he arrived, he does now.
He has already signed young Brazilian Jefte to replace Borna Barisic at left-back with the Croat joined by fellow free agents John Lundstram, Kemar Roofe, Ryan Jack and Jon McLaughlin in moving on. Make no mistake, with the amount of wheeling and dealing Clement is going to have to do, it won’t be easy. Rangers need to find clubs who are interested in those surplus to requirements. If not? Clement might be stuck with them – which could be a huge problem.
I’m certain Jefte will be coming in as first-choice and there has been plenty of talk of Yilmaz going back to Turkey. An offer for him could also boost Clement’s budget. The manager clearly wants a new centre-back – that’s why he was going after Jose Cordoba until the deal fell through. With Leon Balogun also signing a new deal, there’s no way Connor Goldson, John Souttar and Ben Davies will all still be at Rangers next term.
