Only the pilot of the plane, a Cirrus SR20, was aboard when it came down in an isolated area of the airport.
Officials with the county medical examiner's office released the identity of a 46-year-old man killed over the weekend when his small plane crashed on the runway at Montgomery Field Saturday afternoon.
The crash was reported at around noon at the airfield located in Kearny Mesa. At the time, fire officials said the pilot was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. No one on the ground was injured and no fire or explosion was reported at the time of the crash, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said.
On Monday, a spokesman for the county medical examiner's office said the pilot had been identified as Andre Roosevelt Green. The man was a resident of the city of San Diego, according to investigators. Officials confirmed that Green's next-of-kin were notified of his death.Stay informed about local news and weather.
