The event is part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The “Paint the Lake Pink Walk” Sunday at Paulus Park in Lake Zurich offered another perspective on breast cancer awareness, pushing women to pay attention to their breast tissue density. The walk began near the Woodland Trails Pavilion and circled around the waters of Lake Zurich, an estimated three-mile route.
Barry Rosen, breast surgical oncologist at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, is medical director of the cancer prevention program. “I think the most critical issue that far too few women know about is that if you have dense breast tissue, a mammogram’s not enough. Mammograms will miss cancers,” said Rosen. Rosen acknowledged that women who have dense breast tissue have a higher rate of breast cancer than those who don’t.
