Last Year’s Pixel 7 Pro had large shoes to fill. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro represented more than a refresh of Google’s smartphone line-up; it introduced a new Tensor chipset designed by Google, a focus on the use of AI on the handset, and an affordable flagship with as few compromises as possible. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro built on that promise with many small changes to the package that added up to a solid update to the handset.
The three lenses at the rear are a 50-megapixel f/1.68 main lens, a 48-megapixel f/1.95 ultrawide lens, and a 48-megapixel f/2.8 telephoto lens offering x5 optical zoom. With a mix of larger sensors and a tweaked aperture, the Pixel 8 Pro camera system is capturing more light, and therefore more data, than last year's Pixel 7 Pro. The biggest change comes in the ultrawide camera, moving up from a 12-megapixel sensor to a 48-megapixel sensor while only losing 0.5 degrees in field of vision.
This is a key decision in terms of strategy. Google has been forthright that it sees the Pixel phone range as being the first AI-focused hardware. A look through the presentations and the benefits of this approach to programming is very much on show. What’s also noticeable is that all of these apps are Google apps.
Of the former, those contributing to calling allow for improved call screening and clearer audio processing on the incoming call. Both have a practical impact on the calling experience without drawing attention to themselves. Google has also promoted three tools that are not yet ready; these include Video Boost to improve the look and feel of your videos ;Nothing on show is new; you can achieve these effects on your desktop with widely available tools. But you still need the knowledge , and a certain sense of artists to achieve the best results. The experts and professionals will continue to do that.
