At the heart of the project is a seven-story building that would tower over other nearby buildings.
Staten Island, New York-based 501 Richardson Acquisition LLC and developer Tim Harrison were seeking special exceptions to extend the maximum building height from 48 to 72 feet. The developer was denied a special exception of 24 feet for internal parking but was then granted two special exceptions of 12 feet each for agreeing to help fund a bicycle/pedestrian path and for agreeing to help relocate the transit center, according to Charles Gable, Gettysburg borough manager.
“I don’t believe the developer has made a good argument for completely changing the character of our community,” Lois Starkey, an Adams County resident, said last month. The project as of now would include 186 apartments and more than 7,500 square feet of retail space, as well as more than 7,500 square feet of restaurant space.
The one three-story building would be built where the current Gettysburg Transit Center is now. A new transit center would be built nearby and would be paid for as part of the project, Harrison said last month.Harrison agreed to purchase part of the land involved
