First responders are working to remove a plane from the water after it crashed into the Matanuska River along the Glenn Highway near Chickaloon on Thursday, a National Transportation Safety Board official said.
Clint Johnson, Alaska chief for the NTSB, said the agency was notified Thursday afternoon by Alaska State Troopers out of Palmer that an aircraft had crashed into the river near Mile 77 of the highway.
Johnson said the NTSB sent an investigator to the scene, but few other details, such as how many people were on board, were immediately available. The plane was underwater, Johnson said, and first responders on the scene were attempting to remove it.
