Pokémon are fans of fashion, too, as the new episode proves.
Warning: Spoilers for Pokémon: Aim to Be A Master, episode 4If there's one thing fans of Pokémon have always wanted, it's a way to make their Pokémon more unique, with customization and costumes. A recent anime episode even revealed that Pokémon have a sense of fashion all on their own.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In the fourth episode of the Pokémon: Aim to Be A Master miniseries, Ash helps out a Beartic who has trouble controlling its ice powers. One of the tasks that he gives it to help develop its control is to use its powers to create a replica of Oshawott's scalchop, a seashell worn by all Oshawott that doubles as a weapon.
A system of visual marks would certainly prevent the customization mechanic from getting too out-of-hand by limiting the number of options, but still offering enough that a Pokémon would be somewhat unique compared to others of its kind that players might encounter. Marks could be equipped and unequipped from the Pokémon's status screen, so those who dislike the Mark's appearance could easily turn it off and have a normal looking version.
With the video game series increasing the level of player customization ever since X and Y, it only makes sense for that customization to extend to the Pokémon themselves. This has already been featured in the games with Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee allowing players to dress the adorable Pokémon in a variety of outfits. Though scaling that up to the over 1,000 Pokémon might not be feasible, a simple badge or mark system is a lot more feasible.
