A police car was taken off the road after an “idiot” stabbed one of its tyres.
The car was in use in Accrington last night as officers tried to help a vulnerable person when the man punctured the tyre. The hole was discovered as officers were driving later on and the car had be taken out.
PC Paul Wolstenholme was the officer driving the vandalised car and branded the offender an “idiot”, adding that he had put innocent members of the public at risk. He said it happened at around 6pm on Norfolk Grover in full view of other people. The offender is described as a “slim white male” and the force is asking for anyone with information or video footage to contact 111 quoting log number 1159 of July 18.
PC Wolstenholme said: “Whilst trying to assist a vulnerable member of the public on Norfolk Grove, Accrington around 18:00hours, an unknown slim white male has thought it would be funny to use a sharp object and stab the wheel of a marked police vehicle. Also alarming is the fact that several members of the public enjoying the sunshine will have had the male in view, when this happened.
“This has not appeared to deter him and there is no indication they have challenged him or notified the police after he has run off. What this idiot doesn't seem to realise is that ultimately members of the public foot this cost. “In addition, due to the extreme weather, it is an emergency vehicle taken off the road placing innocent members of the public at risk. Thankfully I have been travelling slowly when this has come to light and not travelling on the motorway towards Greenbank.”
