'Government funding needs to be based on the unique community needs faced by individual forces'
A Lancashire police boss has called for funding to be allocated based on an area's specific needs after concerns were raised by a national policing lead.
Andy Cooke, His Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary, said in his State of Policing 2023 report released on Friday that the way police are funded is "an area of increasing concern". Alongside this Mr Cooke highlighted the "increasing reliance on raising money through local council tax".Commissioner Grunshaw has backed this assessment, with fair funding for policing and fighting for a fair deal that helps keep Lancashire safe, at the heart of his priorities.
The State of Policing Report is His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary independent assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency of police forces in England and Wales. The assessment is based on inspection findings and engagement with Chief Constables, Police and Crime Commissioners and other interested parties.
"It's only by focusing how funding is allocated on the needs of different areas, that we will best deliver what residents want to see, more bobbies on the beat and investment in neighbourhood policing.
