SALISBURY, N.C. -- A police officer in North Carolina is being hailed as a hero after pulling an unconscious driver from his burning truck moments before it exploded on Interstate 85.
Salisbury Police Department Lt. Corey Brooks was responding to a separate incident on Aug. 8 when he saw a tractor-trailer hit the median wall on I-85 and catch fire. Video footage of the incident shows Brooks sprinting to the truck’s cab, where he shouted for the driver to exit the vehicle immediately.
However, after finding the driver unconscious, Brooks removed the man’s seatbelt and successfully pulled him from the burning truck. “I need help!,” Brooks is heard shouting as an unidentified female rushes to his assistance to help pull the man to safety across the road.
