Woodstown Police Department confirmed it is investigating the matter.
Matt Gray | For NJ.comA screenshot of the post, which was shared among Salem County residents on Facebook and was said to be circulating among Woodstown High School students, shows a young person wearing a mask with text on the image stating “ need to die they need to Dieee.”
Officials have not confirmed if the person in the photo is a local student or if the person shown actually wrote the text included on the image. Woodstown Police Department confirmed an investigation into “screenshots that are circulating on social media involving racially charged language,” according to a post on the agency’s Facebook page.Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter late Friday morning.
Woodstown-Pilesgrove Regional School District Superintendent Steve Crispin said he would not comment on student matters, but stressed the district’s commitment to equality. “The Woodstown-Pilesgrove Regional School District believes that equality, inclusivity and respect are the cornerstones of education,” he said in a statement. “We do not comment on any specific student matters, but can assure that any and all issues that could impact the aforementioned are taken very seriously.”
