on Oct. 8, 2023. Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department stated that the investigation began around 12:15 a.m. on Oct. 8, when dispatch received information about a shooting that had just occurred near 923 South State Street.
According to police, they had information to believe that the people inside the car they observed speeding off may have been involved in the shooting. Police said they believed Hernandez-Perez crashed as they were attempting to maneuver the roundabout at a high rate of speed.
