Police respond to claims men 'acted suspiciously around child' at Manchester's Christmas Markets in viral social media post
Police have responded to claims that two men 'acted suspiciously around a child' in Manchester city centre after a clip was shared on social media.
Officers said the force is 'aware of a report on a social media account' relating to the incident, which is reported to have happened last night . The incident has not been officially reported to Greater Manchester Police, the force said. It 'appears to have been isolated', police added. The Manchester Evening News understands the claims were made in a video on TikTok.The clip has since been shared hundreds of times, including onto other social media platforms. Police said patrols around the city centre continue to be stepped up while the Christmas Markets are on.
A statement from GMP, which was shared on their city centre social media account, said: "Greater Manchester Police is aware of a report on a social media account relating to two men acting suspiciously around a child in Manchester City Centre last night. "This incident has not been reported to GMP and it appears to have been isolated with no further reports of this nature having been made. We would like to reassure the public that there is an increased uniformed and non-uniformed presence in the city centre throughout the duration of the Christmas markets.
