A friend said the incident occurred when Loretta Claiborne was riding her bike home from Turkey Hill.

Claiborne, an international speaker and champion runner who has competed globally, has been recognized with countless awards including the 1996 ESPN’s ESPY Arthur Ashe Award for Courage.Claiborne, 69, was riding her bike home from Turkey Hill where she bought coffee when the incident occurred. Her longtime friend Roxanne Dubbs told the Daily Record that the person threw a large object, possibly a hunk of asphalt that flew inches over her head.
“The point is some knucklehead has the audacity to attack a 70-year-old woman,” he said. “You’ve got to do a weak body to do and desperate to do something like that. What kind of times are we living in where someone thinks it’s OK to attack a 70 year old woman and a queen and a pinnacle in our community like her.”
