A McLaren sports car ended up on the back of a tow-truck after it was spotted by police outside the Manchester Opera House.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police's transport unit seized the bright yellow and black vehicle outside the opera house, where the pantomime Peter Pan is currently being staged.
Police seized the car because it was allegedly being driven without insurance. The driver had to take a taxi, while the vehicle owner will have to produce an insurance certificate before claiming the car. Manchester City Centre Police said in a tweet in the early hours of this morning : "GMP Transport Unit hooked this McLaren Sports Car tonight, Peter Pan had no Insurance. OH YES HE HAS, Unfortunately he didn't so car was seized no insurance and Peter went back to Never Neverland in a taxi . Hopefully tomorrow he can claim his treasure with the right Insurance."
Gov.co.uk says that it is illegal to drive a vehicle on a road or in a public place without at least third-party insurance. "Even if the vehicle itself is insured, if you’re not correctly insured to drive it you could get penalised," it says.Penalties for uninsured drivers include a fixed penalty of £300 and six penalty points, or an unlimited fine and disqualification from driving if the case goes to court.
