An officer-involved shooting happened Wednesday afternoon in the University Hills area of Denver, police said.
The shooting happened in the area of East Yale Avenue and South Colorado Boulevard, according to police.
Officers encountered a man, who was wanted, in a nearby business and the suspect fled to a vehicle, said Div. Chief Ron Thomas, on Twitter. Three or four officers surrounded the vehicle, and the suspect brandished a handgun. Two officers fired their weapons into the vehicle, and the suspect was hit by gunfire.
Officers pulled the man from the vehicle, and an ambulance took him to a local hospital in critical condition, Thomas said. The man was not immediately identified. A multi-agency investigation into the police shooting is underway.
