According to police sources, the call was made 'in good faith'
A huge emergency services operation was called off on the sea off Blackpool promenade after police determined a 999 call has been made by mistake.
Officers from Lancashire Constabulary, along with HM Coastguard, raced to the coastline near to the North Pier in Blackpool at around 3.30pm this afternoon after a 999 call was made by a member of the public. A helicopter scoured the water while coastguard officers were seen along the Promenade with one eye-witness saying "it seems like it must be pretty serious".
The police source told LancsLive: "The call was a concern for welfare. Officers have since negated that and we believe the informant being intoxicated."
