Remember: 12 bills must be passed to keep the government open. It’s expected that Congress will be able to keep the government open past the deadline this week until Dec. 20, but how Congress keeps coffers filled once it comes to Dec. 20 is anyone’s guess. At this point, there’s no deal on any numbers, any structure or anything. Both sides seem intent on avoiding a yearlong stopgap bill. If they have to fall back on a stopgap, that’s $100 billion less in domestic and defense spending.
