'The Deputy PM knows that his behaviour was unacceptable, so what is he still doing here?' - Labour's Angela Rayner Dominic Raab says he 'thoroughly refutes' all the allegations of bullying against him. PMQs: 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233, YT
Tory MP calls for ministers to have powers to 'arrest and deport and detain illegal migrants'He calls on Mr Raab to ensure that the government remove"all port factors for illegal migration" and to ensure the new Bill of Rights enables ministers to"arrest and deport and detain illegal migrants".
"We've got a plan to keep inflation, to balance the books, to drive economic growth and we are making a statement tomorrow, the autumn statement, which will set out our plan to take the Scottish people and everyone across the United Kingdom through these challenges.""That is the political choice that the Tories are making. But there are always different and better choices."
Continuing to probe the justice secretary, Ms Rayner asks:"When will they appoint an independent ethics advisor and drain the swamp?"Returning back to the cost of living crisis, Ms Rayner says"the economic situation families face speaks for itself".Mr Raab suggests that global factors including COVID and the war in Ukraine are to blame for the lack of growth.Angela Rayner accuses the government of"dragging its feet" to protect the profits of tax havens.
She puts it to him in blunt terms that his letter to the prime minister this morning shows no hint of admission or apology and calls on him to apologise. She says that"every pound hidden in tax havens is a pound lost from the pockets of working families". He asks whether he agrees ministers who have a bullying complaint against them should stand down - that is essentially asking Dominic Raab whether he will resign if that ends up being the case for him. It's an incredibly awkward situation.
His Labour counterpart Angela Rayner will be leading the charge – their last appearance together was a fiery affair, and I think we can potentially expect even more fireworks this time. She will surely want to press home the gaping gap between these allegations surrounding him - coming so soon after the resignation of Sir Gavin Williamson – and the PM's description of his new administration as being built on professionalism and integrity.
