A minister welcomes the UK's return to the EU's Horizon science programme as 'fantastic'. Rishi Sunak pledges to make Britain 'the best place in the world to do business' - as he heads to India for the G20 summit.
Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, is with us now, discussing the circumstances around the escape of a prisoner from Wandsworth Prison.
Ms Cooper called for a"full investigation" into what happened, saying there have been concerns about staffing levels at Wandsworth Prison"for some time".The MP called for an inquiry with an"independent element".Ms Cooper said she hopes Justice Secretary Alex Chalk will announce some sort of independent investigation"when I assume he will come to parliament this morning to answer on this".
Rosena Allin-Khan, the Labour MP for Tooting, has described an"ongoing issue" with staffing levels inside Wandsworth Prison. "So what they had to do in order to make up the numbers was to actually ask people to stay and do a double shift to make up the shortfall. "We didn't just accept the deal on the table, we created a bespoke deal working with the EU. One that will enable our scientific community and businesses to have access to the world's largest research collaboration programme, but also it gives us value for money for the taxpayer.
Escaped prisoner Daniel Abed Khalife, 21, has still not been located, and Ms Donelan said the"top priority" is doing so.She told Sky News:"I know people will be really worried, I spoke to the justice secretary about this who has been gripping it. He's spoken to the governor of the prison, I know an investigation has been launched into how this could happen.
"But in the last few years there have been five who have escaped, so it is very rare, so I do want to reassure people about that."As had been anticipated, it has just been confirmed that the UK will re-join the European Union's £85bn Horizon science research programme. Mr Sunak discussed the UK's involvement with EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen yesterday - ending six months of negotiations.
