released Monday shows that plurality of voters surveyed said whichever candidate wins in November — President Donald Trump or former Vice President Joe Biden — should choose the next justice because the election is"fewer than 50 days away." Thirty-seven percent said Trump should get to decide because he is currently president. The Politico/Morning Consult results showed a partisan divide, with the majority of Democrats in favor of the election winner choosing the next justice and most Republicans in favor of Trump choosing. Independents also favored the winner filling the seat, with 49% agreeing and 31% responding that Trump should make the pick now.
The poll was conducted immediately after the news of Ginsburg's death, from Sept. 18-20, and surveyed 1,989 registered voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
