New Year, Incrementally More Hydrated You? What if New Year’s resolutions weren’t rooted in self-hatred or drastic reinvention but were, actually, just motivation to do more of the things you love to do and be a little bit more of who you want to be? I’m pointedly not resolving toto do—little dreams like finishing a novel or performing in an adult recital—but simply lose sight of throughout the course of the year.
Whether any of us succeeds—that is, if our resolutions take—is beside the point. It’s the trying that counts. Another wonderfully self-aware friend proudly posted her meticulously meal-prepped breakfast egg cups on Instagram while “fully knowing she won’t do it again a single time in 2022.” I also resolved to dance more last year and...didn’t, but I did achieve other goals I set out for myself along the way. And so I keep putting pen to paper and trying.
