The Powerball jackpot, which is already the fourth largest in the history of the lottery game, has risen to $835 million following Monday's drawing.
Maria Menjivar, owner, is seen talking with a customer on July 20 at her store Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles, where a $1-billion Powerball ticket was sold.Drawings are held three times per week: every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as in Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball says the "odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9" while "the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million."
