On Monday, a $1 million, second-prize ticket matching five numbers but not the Powerball was purchased in Texas., three $50,000 tickets were sold and one $200,000 ticket was bought, lottery officials said. The third-prize tickets matched four numbers plus the Powerball.
The $200,000 ticket was sold at 7-Eleven on North Bay Ave. in Beach Haven. The $50,000 tickets were bought at Wawa on South Delsea Drive in Vineland, Ivy Plaza Liquors on Irvington Avenue in Newark and Baldwin News & Food Store on Baldwin Road in Parsippany. The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are 292,201,388 to 1. A player who buys a $2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to match five numbers and win at least $1 million, while the odds are 913,129 to 1 of winning the third prize of at least $50,000.
Powerball is played on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
