During LSU football celebration at White House, President Trump talks impeachment, uses profanity.
WASHINGTON – When the speeches wrapped up in the East Room of the White House, President Donald Trump took the microphone for the final word and invited the LSU Tigers to the Oval Office for pictures. There, Trump said, the players and coaches could be photographed alongside the president and the Resolute Desk.
"We've got the greatest economy we've ever had, Joe. We've got the greatest military. We rebuilt it. We took out those terrorists like your football team would have taken out those terrorists, right?"As coach Ed Orgeron, quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow, receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson stood behind him and with a trio of trophies in front, Trump had an ideal opportunity to distance himself from impeachment talk.
A poignant moment came when Trump singled out offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, whose daughter-in-law Carley McCord died in a plane crash on Dec. 28, the day of the semifinal matchup against Oklahoma. He also spoke directly to the receiver duo of Jefferson and Chase, telling them, “you’re going to make so much money.”
