In a tweet posted at 11:25 p.m. on Friday, the president wrote: 'So funny to watch Steve Kerr grovel and pander when asked a simple question about China. He chocked (sic), and looks weak and pathetic. Don't want him at the White House!'

For most of the last three years, Trump has attempted to quiet critics such as Kerr. Yet, over the previous few days, the president knocked Kerr repeatedly for failing to speak up. Trump found this response hypocritical and lashed out the following day."They talked badly about the United States. But when they talk about China, they don't want to say anything bad," said Trump on Wednesday."I thought it was pretty sad, actually, to see them pandering to China. It will be very interesting."
