Ofsted inspectors have revealed the reasons behind the success of these outstanding schools
Although a parent is often guided by which schools are nearest to their home any mum or dad would be concerned if the closest educational establishment has been criticised by regulator Ofsted. We all want the best for our children and the school they attend is considered to be an extension of the parental role.
Inspectors noted that: "Teachers plan imaginative and creative lessons that engage pupils... The curriculum provides very rich opportunities for pupils’ learning. Reading, writing and mathematics are incorporated seamlessly across different areas of the curriculum... The provision for pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and for those who are disadvantaged is of very high quality.
Teachers at the school place a great emphasis on reading and inspectors also reported: "Leaders provide ample opportunities for pupils’ wider development. Pupils’ experiences are enriched far beyond the classroom. They partake in, and enjoy, an extensive range of visits. For instance, during a recent trip to Howarth, pupils learned about how the Bronte sisters overcame adversity."
The inspectors added: "The rich curriculum and the outstanding provision for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development contribute to pupils’ excellent personal development. The school prepares pupils exceptionally well for the next stage of their education and for their future lives as British citizens."
The inspection report states: "Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. They are very polite and considerate towards others. Pupils have an excellent understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe. They say they feel very safe in school at all times." "Students are extremely considerate of others, courteous, have excellent relationships with each other as well as adults and are very happy at school. They show a deep interest in learning, are keen to do well and this has a significant impact on their progress."
Many parents felt that "every child matters" and inspectors added: "Outstanding teaching, supported by very skilled teaching assistants, provides imaginative, stimulating activities that capture pupils’ interest and inspire them to want to learn more." Parents are kept informed of their child's progress via a secure messaging service and although children enter early years below the expected developmental levels "by the end of their time in this class some children are achieving age-related expectations in some aspects".
