Pret A Manger has made its discounted subscription model permanent after facing backlash for axing its free coffee deal. The new £10 a month plan offers 50% off coffee, a change from the previous £30 a month deal which included five free barista-made coffees daily and a 20% discount on all food.
Pret A Manger , the popular UK sandwich and coffee chain, has made its discounted subscription model permanent. The company initially introduced a trial of the new scheme in September after facing backlash for axing its free coffee deal in July 2022. The original Club Pret subscription, costing £30 a month, offered five free barista-made coffees a day and a 20% discount on all Pret A Manger food. This change saw Pret announce it would be shifting its scheme to £10 a month for 50% off coffee.
The new, permanent price of £10 a month for 50% off coffee, was initially planned to be in effect until the end of March 2025. However, in a surprise move, Pret emailed its customers today confirming that the discounted monthly fee is here to stay. The company stated that its priority is to 'focus on better value for everyone,' considering that the majority of its customers were not Club Pret subscribers. While Pret's strategy focuses on broader customer value, competitors like Leon and Costa offer alternative subscription models. Leon's Roast Rewards allows subscribers to pay £25 a month for five barista-made drinks a day, while Costa's loyalty program requires customers to buy ten coffees to get one free.
