PreyMovie's Amber Midthunder says the cast's 4-week bootcamp still didn't prepare them for the intense shoot 👀 '[T]here's no way to prepare to show up to work every day for a week and get thrown in a mud pit or a river or... running down a cliff...' 😰
The Prey cast were put through a boot camp to prepare for filming - but it wasn't enough. The upcoming horror-thriller will be a prequel to the long-running franchise that first began in 1987 with the action movie Predator. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, and Bill Duke, the original film received a mixed critical response at the time of its release. However, it proved popular with audiences and quickly became a cult classic.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Set in 1719, Prey will focus on Naru , a young Commanche hunter who takes part in a proving ritual - but is interrupted by an unseen, ruthless alien. With nothing but her hunting bow, makeshift weapons, and her prowess, Naru takes it upon herself to track and kill the Predator before it kills her.
You cannot. It is so impossible. We had the four-week training camp that we did. Dakota and I and all the other boys before we started filming. But truthfully, there's no way to prepare to show up to work every day for a week and get thrown in a mud pit or a river or, you know, at one point I was running down a cliff or something. You can't really prepare for that.
As the film centers around a Native American tribe living in the Great Plains in the early-18th century, the actors are expected to simulate life during that time period. Although Midthunder did not get into the details of the cast's training regimen, her description of the scenes imply that the boot camp most likely consisted of rigorous outdoor exercises to simulate the action scenes of the film.
Boot camps are not that uncommon for action films in which the actors must provide a convincing performance for the role. Director Steven Spielberg put his actors through a tough training program to get them prepared to play soldiers in the World War II action-drama Saving Private Ryan.
